First Impressions

When I first saw Tokyo Skytree rising above the skyline, it looked like something from the future—sleek, silver, and impossibly tall. At 634 meters, it’s the tallest structure in Japan, but it doesn’t just dominate the skyline—it defines it.

Up close, the structure is surprisingly graceful. Standing beneath it, I felt small—but in the kind of way that fills you with wonder, not overwhelm.

Getting There

I took the Tobu Skytree Line to Tokyo Skytree Station, which drops you right at the base. You can also take the Asakusa Line to Oshiage Station—super convenient, and both are well-connected from central Tokyo.

Tip: Arrive about an hour before sunset to catch daytime views and see the city light up in real time.

My Experience

The elevator ride up was so smooth, I barely realized we were moving until the doors opened and—bam—Tokyo spread out beneath me like a living map. I visited the Tembo Deck (350m) first, then added access to the Tembo Galleria (450m), where a spiraling glass walkway made it feel like I was floating.

I watched the sun dip behind Mount Fuji in the distance, and as night fell, the city turned into a galaxy of lights. I didn’t want to leave.

Snack Break

I treated myself to a delicate matcha parfait at Skytree Café, 340 meters above ground. Sipping tea while gazing out at Tokyo Tower in the far distance felt surreal—like living in a dream.

Personal Tips

• Book in advance, especially for sunset/evening slots

• Go all the way to the Tembo Galleria—it’s quieter, higher, and feels more exclusive

• Bring a scarf or jacket—it can get chilly that high up

• Visit on a clear day for the best chance to see Mt. Fuji from the west-facing side
