Griffith Observatory
Griffith Observatory, Los Angeles
“Stars above, city lights below—it’s pure movie magic.”
First Impressions
The moment I arrived at Griffith Observatory, it felt like I stepped into a scene from La La Land. Perched high above Los Angeles, the building itself is beautiful—white walls, domes, and classic Art Deco style—but the real show is the view. You get the city stretching out endlessly in one direction, and the iconic Hollywood Sign resting on the hills in the other. It’s romantic, cinematic, and full of wonder.
Getting There
I drove up in the late afternoon (parking can be tricky—go early!), but there’s also a shuttle from the Vermont/Sunset Metro station on weekends. You can also hike up via Griffith Park trails if you’re feeling adventurous.
Tip: Come before sunset so you can enjoy the golden glow and then watch the stars come out.
My Experience
Inside, it’s full of fascinating exhibits—space, time, planets, light—it’s like a playground for curious minds. I caught one of the planetarium shows, and wow… it was both calming and mind-blowing. Even if you’re not a science nerd, it makes you feel like part of something bigger.
But my favorite part? Stepping outside after dark. The sky was just beginning to sparkle, the city below was glittering, and there was a quiet buzz from other visitors soaking it all in. It felt timeless.
